Bali: a beautiful, bustling, and beachy adventure

Posted by Katherine Yasi on March 30, 2016 at 6:32 AM

One of the main things I set out to do before embarking on this six month adventure was to take full advantage of living in an area very far away from my home city of Boston.  What that meant to me was leveraging the relatively small distance in between destinations I could only dream of visiting as a Bostonian.

Top Tips for Finding Great Food and Restaurants in Sydney

Posted by Katherine Yasi on September 20, 2015 at 5:31 AM

One of my favorite things about traveling to a new place is discovering great places to eat and drink.  During these last 5 months while living in Sydney, I’ve had the pleasure of exploring the food scene and indulging in all it has to offer. From brunch spots with incredible haloumi, poached eggs, & avocado dishes; fancy coffee shops that put Dunkin Donuts & Starbucks to shame, and cocktail bars that I am definitely going to miss back in Boston - the food scene is not just good, it's unbelievably good.

June, in photos

Posted by Katherine Yasi on June 23, 2015 at 8:00 PM

I cannot believe that the month of June is nearly over! I've been living in Sydney for over 2 months now and feel fully settled in which is nice.  One of my customers the other day even remarked that I sounded like an Australian! I'm not sure I agree with him, but I definitely feel at home here and have been loving Australian life.

Six Thoughts as I Turn 26

Posted by Katherine Yasi on June 9, 2015 at 11:30 AM

Today, June 9th, is my 26th birthday and this year I am writing this post within the few hours of time that it is both my birthday here in Australia as well as back home in Boston.

The past 12 months has been one hell of a year. Looking back, I can confidently say I experienced so much of every emotion - I laughed, cried, loved; I felt angered (mostly with myself), scared, lost, and everything in between.  I challenged myself to try new things, put myself out there, meet new people, move across the world.. you know, normal things for a 25 year old to do (read: had a complete quarter life crisis).

I'm still here.. highlights from Month 2 of Sydney living

Posted by Katherine Yasi on May 30, 2015 at 7:30 AM

Within only a couple weeks until my two month anniversary of being here in Australia, just wanted to say a quick hi! Each day I am more and more grateful to have the opportunity to live abroad for a few months. I've admittedly not been great about writing here. I need to employ some tactics I teach customers at HubSpot to keep their blogging consistent ;) - overall I think it's an okay sign that I haven't been cooped up writing on my blog and trying to get out and explore as much as possible outside of work.

G'Day from Sydney!

Posted by Katherine Yasi on April 26, 2015 at 1:02 AM

It's Sunday, April 26th around 1pm and I am writing to you from Creperie Suzette in The Rocks.  I've been living in Sydney since April 8th - the time has absolutely flown! For those of you who may not know me IRL, I'm from Boston and will be based in Sydney for work for the next six months.  I work for a software company called HubSpot and I am part of the first wave of Services team members who will be working with our APAC clients.

I left Boston on April 6th, it was a Monday afternoon and after a ~7 hour flight to LA, a ~7 hour layover, and a ~15 hour flight to Sydney - I landed in Australia on April 8th around noon.  When I boarded the plane from LA to Sydney, I had been awake for 22 hours so needless to say I was a complete zombie.  This worked in my favor. My flight was not full and I had a full row of seats to myself. As soon as the seatbelt sign was turned off after takeoff, I immediately layed down and was able to sleep. I slept through the welcome drink and dinner; I have no regrets.
